The discussion is closed Zwarte Piet is just a very important positive part of the Sinterklaasfeest in the Netherlands.
Our Cultural Heritage and will always be there.
On this site and on zwartepietisgoed.nl there's something about the Sinterklaasfeest that is what it is.
On Youtube someone can react. But this here is just what it is and the video is just what it is.
This website is online because very old people were bullied because the dutch language is just different then english/american. And I thought that was really horrible having old people bullied because they celebrate a most loving positive festival.
And it's a shame all the people in the Netherlands don't speak the dutch language to understand eachother well. Someone shouldn't be afraid to show and celebrate. The time when even celebrities who didn't know Santa forgot the ashes, etc. They didn't even know anymore what the coal in their stocking was for. That was really strange..........I hope they are more smart now. In the Netherlands there are so many (maybe too many because they don't understand eachother anymore) people welcome so it would be wise to learn the dutch language like it is (not saying offending things like "witte" for white people like some people do now, it's too polarizing here) instead of bullying people with saying 'Witte" or "Zwarte". You can understand now that people would be angry offending them with speaking in that way.
I hope people who want to live here will understand all the sayings, proverbs, etc. before giving a meaning about something really dutch like the festivals and about the dutch people.
I know there are a lot of stories about Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet but there's no explanation for other stories. Even his clothes are Some Spanish, some nobleman Dutch. Zwarte Piet is just a Dutchman showing remorse for his mistakes. Cause why would he wear a sack and forget his ashes, doesn't make any sense. Santa does, maybe some lack of memory of the old saint when he also had to work hard in America, but here we don't. Or the man who brought Santa (Sinterklaas) to America just was afraid of something which wasn't here in the Netherlands because we don't say "witte" or "gele"or "rode"or 'zwarte". The dutch government is saying we don't polarize here and that's how it should be. Our skincolour comes from the sun, that's all. We are all the same.
For further older information look at the film Wild Geraas.
Zwarte Piet is in the Netherlands a V.I.P. and it's normal they make a lot of stories about a VIP: funny ones, bedtime stories for children, satire, cartoons, people joking around with silly rumours about him, etc.
President Obama, Trump etc. are also VIP's in America. Would you believe all the satire, the cartoons, the funny things about them....like on Youtube...I hope not!!!
With football and Holland playing there's a lot of funny stuff on the internet about King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima. Don't believe that is all the truth.
The Dutchman has this festival and the reason behind it was he could show remorse for his sins by playing Zwarte Piet being in sackcloth and ashes, wearing a rod and helping others with it to be kind. The people were not always allowed to show everything what they stood for because there was no freedom of religion and no freedom of speech. The why people say they come here for, because in their own country this isn't accepted. Remember that too. So I hope we're not going back to that. I love the Netherlands too much for that and I hope the people will take the effort to learn the dutch language in the right way so they can understand our festival.
Saying "Witte" to a dutchman is just bullying. Here we say blank to a lightskinned person and donker to a darkskinned person. Licht getint en donker getint sometimes too. We don't talk in yellow, white, black and red. Saying "gele" to someone from China would be bullying too. In the Netherlands we only have some witte "mensen" like Sinterklaas (a saint/ghost) is often powdered wit. And the MacDonaldsclown or any clown. In any other way "witte" mensen don't exist here in the Netherlands.
Even in English it might be a strange saying: White....Black.....Someone doesn't turn grey in the sun. Do you know someone turning grey in the sun? I think there might be less racism if in English it would also be something like lightskinned, darkskinned.......And no red and yellow also.
So instead of insisting the dutch language to change to a sort of a strange language because of the "skin"colours black and white. Maybe it's a better idea to change English : don't use any black and white anymore for a person. Might be a good thing. No polarizing people anymore.
Normally if you are bullied with being a lighthouse if you have red hair you don't blame the lighthouse, but the people who are bullying you. With Zwarte Piet some people blame the lighthouse.......... Hope this is something people do understand.
In America Santa is made up only with the sack(cloth)and he doesn't have Zwarte Piet working with him. Might be for a reason that doesn't exist in the Netherlands. Here we know that Zwarte Piet is a wonderful positive thing.
So it's a festival for everyone because of the reason behind it: being forgiven for your little sins by friends and family and make the world a better place!
